State Farm is not a Good Neighbor Part 2"
State Farm did go through restructuring and downsizing, however the policyholders would (and still won't) never know as they whitewashed their struggles. The company who once internally boasted about being so great and financially sound started to feel the wrath of mother nature beginning with Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Storm after storm led to the merging of regional offices, offering buy out packages, and forcing employees out in unethical ways.
I saw this happen with my own eyes as I was one of the employees whose department, Data Processing, had been realigned. I took a huge paycut to stay with the company and took a job in the Administrative Services department. Rated as Above Average in all my employee evaluations since I began with the company; I was now receiving Needs Improvement ratings. Funny, that my previous job was a level 6, and yet the job I took to stay with the company was a level 3; which is entry level. So I went from doing very well at an advanced position, but when I had to simply key in policy numbers and feed forms through a machine I was needing improvement?
Also, in my employee reviews, my character flaws and flaws in my appearance were attacked.
These same things happened to several other people who were eventually fired. They didn't "FIT" the State Farm image. Some of us were able to leave with dignity and give our notice before we got the axe.
