Have a homeowners policy with State Farm. I was told by many not to use them because of their not so ethical ways, which is well documented in the late 90's, and for their horrible handling of the people and victims of Katrina. Man, should I have listened.
We had a hail storm come through, nothing that major, but thought I better make sure the roof was still good. I called them to have them ck it out. They came out and said there wasn't any hail damage, but appeared there was some from a hail about 5 years ago. They said that would need to be replaced but they wouldn't fix the roof.
I asked why, and they said they were not my carrier at that time. Fine I thought. Then I got a letter saying they would not cover me after my renewal date due to the roof not being fixed. I called and they gave me a name of a roofer. Their roofer, the one they suggested came out and said, "There is nothing wrong with the roof". You don't have any damage.
I called State Farm back and asked why do I need to replace the roof when I have no damage. They said they would ck to see if they had checked the wrong roof. State Farm then sent me a letter saying again they can not insure the home without it being fixed. They had another person come out and said the roof was damaged. I looked at it, a neighbor who is in construction looked at it, and he couldn't find any damage.
State Farm is by far the worst. They would not give me any reason why, the roofer they suggested come out and say there is nothing wrong with the roof, yet they say there is. WTF.
Called Allstate and then found out State Farm, for the SAME exact policy and such is $600 cheaper!!
AVOID JANE PHILLIPS STATE FARM INSURANCE, they are crooks.
